Reports to: Housekeeping Manager
Overall Objectives:
As an integral member of the PCL team, your responsibility as a Housekeeper Attendant is to provide a consistent level of service excellence to the Resort guests, their guests and staff possess with respect to the hygiene, sanitization and cleaning of Main Lodge, Boathouse and Barn facilities and other designated buildings and areas which Resort guests and staff utilize. You must have a positive attitude and an attentive approach, with a regard for health and safety in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the health and safety policies and procedures of Port Cunnington Lodge.
Requirements:
- To carry out the specific cleaning/janitorial and laundry duties in order to maintain a clean, healthy, safe and visually pleasing appearance of all areas within the Lodge, Barn, Boathouse and other designated buildings that Resort guests and staff utilize.
- Provide a consistent level of efficient, friendly and professional cleaning/janitorial and laundry services to Resort guests and visiting guests
- To represent high personal and company standards
- Complete all side duties and daily morning, midday and closing procedures related to the position as instructed within this job description
- Stock all side areas with necessary supplies according to function requirements
- To have comprehensive knowledge of all products and procedures necessary when carrying out the duties off cleaning and laundry services
- To be aware, at all times, of the needs and requirements of the Resort guests as it relates to Lodge, Barn, Boathouse and individual cottages housekeeping, amenities and toiletries
- To advise supervisor of any Resort guests or visiting guests concerns, comments or complaints immediately, thus allowing a service recovery program to be initiated by supervisor to correct problem
- To offer suggestions that can enhance the Resort Guest experience while utilizing the Lodge, Barn, Boathouse facilities and amenities and/or possible improvements that may increase efficiency in the operation as it relates to cleaning and laundry procedures
- Ensure a clean and professional appearance of the Lodge, Barn, Boathouse and Cottages and other buildings utilize by Resort guests and staff
- Maintain accurate counts on product inventory and towels
- As part of the Housekeeping/Janitorial team you will perform all duties in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Health and Safety Policies and Procedures of Port Cunnington Lodge
- Work Term is throughout our Resort Season which is from April 24th to October 22nd, 2023
Responsibilities and Job Overview:
- Specific Skills: make beds; dust furniture; clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures; clean and disinfect kitchens and appliances; distribute clean towels and toiletries; sweep, mop and wash floors; vacuum carpeting, area rugs, draperies and upholstered furniture; wash windows, walls and ceilings; handle and report lost and found items; attend to guest requests; restock suppliesPrevious janitorial and industry/commercial cleaning experience desired
- Enjoys cleaning and feels a since of pride in the benefits that members and staff receive from a clean and visual pleasing appearance of the Clubhouse facilities and other designated buildings they utilize.
- Believes and understands that this component of services provided by the housekeeping team is essential in providing service excellence to our Resort guests and visiting guest as it relates to their utilization of our operation and the facilities provided within it.
- Enjoys working independently and being comfortable to interact with the public while carrying out the duties and responsibilities
- Reliable, hard working, embraces a philosophy of life long learning, able to work variable shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout our Season which runs tentatively from May 12th to October 12th
Brief Overview of Daily Duties:
- Men’s and Ladies Washrooms
- Boathouse Lower floor and Washroom
- Lodge Veranda, Deck and outdoor furniture
- Dining Room, Hallways and Front Desk area
- Public Washrooms in Boathouse and Barn
- Administration
- Staff Lunch Room and outside the area
- Refilling products of areas
- Extras: Windows, Coach Lights Cleaning, Pull out washers and Dryers, Inventory, Ordering Product, Washing Marks on the Walls, Cleaning Cobwebs
Health & Safety Risk Factors:
- Sprains & Strains: On your feet for long periods of time, pushing and pulling equipment such as vacuums and mops
- Slips & Falls: Spilled food, fast-paced environment, uneven surfaces, inappropriate footwear
- Burns & Scalds: Exposure to varying temperatures from hot to cold
- Stress: Fast paced environment
- Environment:
- Extreme Temperatures: Heat generated from Laundry facilities
- Lighting: Dim lighting
- Odours: Cleaning odours from products used to disinfect and sanitize surfaces
- Noise: Generated by equipment in Laundry facilities and while carrying out day to day duties
- Carrying heavy containers and boxes periodically
- Moving furniture to accommodate thorough and detailing cleaning and dusting
Essential Skills:
- Ability to provide legible communication in a timely manner
- Knowledge of labour and inventory cost controls
- Reliable, hardworking, embraces a philosophy of life long learn, able to work variable shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout our Season.
- Computer proficiency, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Respiration (CPR) and First Aid.
Staff Evaluations
- Staff performance evaluations for all staff will be conducted mid-season and end of season. Steps include: each staff member will be given the evaluation form to complete a self-evaluation before the stated review period; Lead Supervisor will complete a review for each staff member prior to the review; the staff member and supervisor will then meet to go over the review; both parties will then sign off on the review and copies of all employee reviews will be kept on file in the Food and Beverage Manager Office and a copy submitted to their HR file
- Informal chats / coaching for new and returning employees should be conducted weekly or bi-weekly and/or as a need is identified (very important during the first four weeks of the spring operating season)
Occurrence Reports
If any incident occurs worthy of reporting, an occurrence report must be filled out and submitted immediately to the Supervisor. Further to this report please inform your supervisor if the occurrence requires immediate attention.

As we continue to increase the staff size and evolve in our newly renovated surroundings at PCL it is imperative that we communicate and work together to provide the best service levels on a consistent basis. Our common “team goal” is developing customer service environments that routinely meet and exceed our Resort guests and visiting guest expectations. A well working team makes this part of the workplace culture. As a Housekeeper Attendant it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the PCL Employee Manual and by “setting by example” execute and demonstrate the importance of following company policies and procedures. As well, embrace the importance of everyone’s role is an integral part of achieving common objectives.
